AceShowbiz - HBO has released the first official image of Jude Law on its upcoming series "The Young Pope". In the image that is more suitable to represent someone on vacation than a pope, he looks regal in his white papal outfit while relaxing in the sun. He covers his eyes with stylish sunglasses and a hat.

The two-time Academy Award-nominated actor plays Lenny Belardo, Pope Pius XIII, on the drama from Italian Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino. It revolves around "the beginning of the Pontificate of Pius XIII, born Lenny Belardo. He was a complex and conflicted character, so conservative in his choices as to border on obscurantism, yet full of compassion towards the weak and poor."

Sorrentino has said the show would capture "the inner struggle between the huge responsibility of the Head of the Catholic Church and the miseries of the simple man that fate (or the Holy Spirit) chose as Pontiff. Finally, how to handle and manipulate power in a state whose dogma and moral imperative is the renunciation of power and selfless love towards one's neighbor."

The eight-episode series is filmed in Italy, North America, Africa and Puerto Rico, and is expected to wrap up the production in February 2016. Also starring Diane Keaton as a nun, the drama series is made in a joint production with HBO, Sky and France's Canal Plus.
