A romance will spark between Kinney's Kelly Severide and a law firm employee (Nichols) in the fourth season of the NBC drama series.

Kelly Severide is getting a new love interest on "Chicago Fire". The character portrayed by Taylor Kinney will be flirting with a new character to be played by Rachel Nichols in upcoming season 4 of the NBC series.

"He's back to fling mode," executive producer Matt Olmstead reveals to TV Guide. He teases, "Part of the ramifications of getting demoted is that he has to go to this manager trainee course that is obligatory. Sure enough, he meets someone, played by Rachel Nichols, who's sent there because she's a problem employee at the law firm she works at. So, there's a little romance that happens there that turns into a complication down the road."

Nichols is a series regular on Canadian sci-fi series "Continuum" which airs on Syfy in the United States. Other details regarding her role on "Fire" are not available.

Toward the end of season 3, Kelly hooked up with his old friend and nurse April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) of "Chicago Med", before she decided to leave the town. She, however, is eventually staying around Chicago. Talking about the two characters' short fling, Olmstead says, "That was a culmination of a longtime friendship. They just wanted to know what it was like."

"Chicago Fire" season 4 kicks off Tuesday, October 13 at 10 P.M. on NBC. Executive producer Dick Wolf confirmed at the TCA press tour earlier this month that a four-way crossover with "Chicago P.D.", "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and his new show "Chicago Med" would be coming in February.
