Sam Smith's speaking ban has finally been lifted. The "Stay With Me" crooner is allowed to speak again three weeks after undergoing vocal cord surgery in May.
The singer enthusiastically shared the happy news with his loyal fans via Instagram on Wednesday, June 3. "I CAN SPEAK AGAIN!!!!!!!!" the star wrote alongside a picture of Ariel from Disney's 1989 animated film "The Little Mermaid".
The 23-year-old star underwent the vocal surgery after a minor hemorrhage was found on his vocal cords. He was forced to cancel his Australian tour due to the health problem.
"Sam Smith underwent vocal cord microsurgery by Dr. Steven Zeitels to stop recurrent vocal cord hemorrhage (bleeding). This condition is the result of unstable blood vessels in the vocal cord that can rupture and prevent vocal performance," Massachusetts General Hospital, where Smith had the surgery, said at that time.
Smith later took to Instagram to thank his Boston doctor for saving his life. "Completely overwhelmed. Thank you so much Doctor Zeitels for everything," he captioned an image of him and the doctor. "You have truly saved me this past few months. Such an amazing man."
Following the operation, Smith was banned from speaking for three weeks and was not allowed to sing for three to five more weeks. He recently announced five rescheduled dates for his Australian tour via Facebook.
