Cody Simpson Explains Delayed Joint Album With Justin Bieber, Says It's Coming Someday
Music

The duo saves the duets album for 'a time in the future where it'll be cooler to do it together, when we're both in such different positions that it's like more interesting to come together.'

Cody Simpson excited fans last summer when he revealed that he was readying a duets album with pal Justin Bieber. However, he ended up disappointing them when he said earlier this year that the project was "no longer slated to be released anytime soon" because he was too busy with his own upcoming LP.

The Australian heartthrob then discussed the delayed album in a new interview with Huffington Post, explaining why he and Bieber wanted to work together on the record "that unfortunately never got to see the light of day" and why they eventually decided to put it on hold.

"We both wanted to go our own musical directions and musical paths," Simpson said of why he and the "Baby" hitmaker agreed to do a collaborative effort. "Obviously we've been friends for a while and he's a good guy for sure, [and] we got to put out something cool [the 2014 single 'Home to Mama'] and we got a really great response online and stuff."

Of how the anticipated album got delayed, Simpson said that he and Bieber "wanted to save something like that for a time in the future where it'll be cooler to do it together, when we're both in such different positions that it's like more interesting to come together." He added, "It was a mutual decision."

The 18-year-old entertainer couldn't say when the duets album would exactly arrive, but he assured fans that it would definitely come someday.

Both Simpson and Bieber are preparing their respective solo album. The former is planning to drop his "Free" before the summer. The latter, meanwhile, has stated that he's in no rush to complete his own full-length as he wants it to be "the best piece of art that I can create - something that's really near and dear to my heart."
