Executive producer Gareth Neame expresses interest in taking the show to the big screen after the upcoming last season.

AceShowbiz - After numerous chatters during the past few months, "Downton Abbey" is finally confirmed to take a bow with the upcoming sixth season. However, the British period drama series is not completely off the table. A movie might follow after the show comes to an end.

"Our position on that is we would be very interested in that [movie]," executive producer Gareth Neame said. "It is definitely something we're contemplating. It would be great fun to do. I think it would be a wonderful extension of everything that people loved about the TV show, but I can't confirm that it's definitely going to happen. If we can get all our ducks in row..."

Of the decision to end the show, Neame said in a phone news conference, "Our feeling is it's good to quit while we're ahead." He explained, "We wanted to end when the time is right, so that people will love it for years to come and not feel there's a drop-off, and we've not outstayed our welcome."

"It's a very emotional day for all of the people involved in the show," he added. "It was a cast decision, (too), we've taken these characters on a journey, we've told our story."

"We can promise a final season full of all the usual drama and intrigue," the producer also teased, "but with the added excitement of discovering how and where they all end up."
