'Glee' and 'The Imitation Game' Among Winners at 2015 GLAAD Awards

'How to Get Away with Murder', 'Transparent' and 'The Normal Heart' are also honored at the 26th annual event.

AceShowbiz - The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) handed out some prizes at its 26th annual GLAAD Media Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 21. Among the honorees included the recently concluded "Glee", which was presented with a Special Recognition Award for its groundbreaking work over its six seasons.

The show's star Alex Newell, who played a transgender character named Wade "Unique" Adams, performed "I Know Where I've Been" from the musical "Hairspray" and received a standing ovation.

Other TV works getting accolades that night were "How to Get Away with Murder" (Outstanding Drama Series), "Transparent" (Outstanding Comedy Series), "The Normal Heart" (Outstanding TV Movie or Mini-Series), "Days of Our Lives" (Outstanding Daily Drama) and "Drop Dead Diva" for its episode "Identity Crisis".

"The Imitation Game" won an award for Outstanding Film, Wide Release, while Against Me! was honored as Outstanding Music Artist. Kerry Washington, meanwhile, was presented with Vanguard Award and delivered a powerful speech.

The awards were given to recognize and honor various branches of the media for their outstanding representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and the issues that affect their lives. More winners will be announced during a ceremony on May 9 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.

  • Outstanding Comic Book: "Rat Queens" (Image Comics)
  • Outstanding Digital Journalism Article: "31 Days of PrEP" (series) (Advocate.com)
  • Outstanding Blog: "Autostraddle" (autostraddle.com)
  • Special Recognition Awards: "Dragon Age: Inquisition" (Video game), "Era Diferente" (Song), "Glee" (Television Program)
