The openly gay British superstar explains that the beautiful visuals shows his dream that gay men and women all over the world can get married one day.

AceShowbiz - Sam Smith has released the official music video for his new single, "Lay Me Down". Premiering on Thursday, February 5, the clip was shot at the parish church of St. Margaret, Lee outside London by director Ryan Hope.

It first gives glimpses at Smith standing alone at the church's altar in front of what appears to be a coffin while mourners holding candles are behind him. As the video unfolds, he's seen all smiles when he weds his boyfriend as their family and friends cheer for them.

Smith, who came out as a gay last year, talked about the concept of the music video as he introduced it on his Facebook page. "This song holds a very dear place in my heart. With this video myself and Ryan Hope the director have decided to make a statement and showcase something we passionately believe in," he explained.

"This video shows my dreams that one day gay men and women and transgendered men and women all over the world, like all our straight families and friends, will be able to get married under any roof, in any city, in any town, in any village, in any country," he continued. "I hope you enjoy it. I love you all x."

"Lay Me Down" is featured on "In the Lonely Hour", Smith's critically-acclaimed debut album which is currently up for the coveted Album of the Year at this weekend's Grammys. He's pitted against several big names including his idol Beyonce Knowles in the category.
