Showtime has released a new sneak peek for "Penny Dreadful" season 2 to tide fans over the show's return. It features a voiceover by Eva Green's Vanessa who shares she learnt in the past that a curse could also be a blessing and she accepted hers.

"Will you do the same?" she asks someone unseen, while the footage shows her gazing through a window and Ethan's (Josh Hartnett) gaze is wandering round a room. There's also a glimpse of Timothy Dalton's Sir Malcolm Murray in a carriage and Reeve Carney's Dorian looking at Vanessa's picture.

Towards the end of the video, Vanessa is seen falling on her knees in the show as some pale-faced creatures appear in other scenes. A shot of someone's hand rising from the water is also included in the short teaser.

Showtime has not announced a premiere date for "Penny Dreadful" season 2. The new installment will have Helen McCrory's Madame Kali, who recurred in season 1, as "a great antagonist." Showtime president David Nevins teased, "Season 1's antagonist was sort of an inhuman character. It'll be good to have a more human antagonist."

Simon Russell Beale, who played Egyptologist Ferdinand Lyle in season 1, is also upped to series regular for season 2, while Tony Award winner Patti LuPone, Douglas Hodge, Sarah Greene and Jonny Beauchamp join the cast in guest-starring roles.
