Springsteen and Chris Martin both fill in for U2's frontman Bono who's still recovering from the injuries he sustained in a cycling incident a few weeks ago.

U2 enlisted several big names in music for their surprise concert in New York City on December 1. The Irish band was joined by fellow musicians including Kanye West and Bruce Springsteen to play the free concert held as a part of World AIDS Day.
West excited the crowd who packed the Duffy Square in Times Square, Broadway between 46th & 47th Streets, with the live performance of his old and new songs. He did "Power", "Jesus Walks", "Black Skinhead", "Stronger" and "Touch the Sky" during his set.
Along with Chris Martin, Springsteen was invited to fill in for Bono. The U2 frontman couldn't make it to the show as he was still under doctors' orders to "refrain from performing" until he fully recuperates from the injuries he sustained in a cycling incident a few weeks ago.
Led by The Boss, U2 played "Where the Streets Have No Name" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". Earlier that night, Martin joined Bono's bandmates for "Beautiful Day" and "With or Without You".
Carrie Underwood was another star performing at the special concert. The "American Idol" alum performed "Change" and her newest single "Something in the Water" while accompanied by a band including U2's guitarist The Edge.
