AceShowbiz - On May 12, a large crowd gathered in Mexico City to witness U2 filming the music video for their upcoming single Street of Dreams. The band performed atop a school bus adorned with graffiti created by artist Chavis Mármol, creating a striking visual backdrop for the shoot. This single will be featured on their next album, scheduled for release later this year.
Drummer Larry Mullen Jr. made a notable return to band activities at the video shoot after a period of recovery from neck and back surgeries. Mullen had been absent for much of the band’s recent engagements, including their extensive 40-night residency at the Sphere during 2023 and 2024. His comeback behind the drum kit marks an important milestone in his healing process and the band’s ongoing projects.
Earlier this year, Mullen candidly reflected on his ordeal: "I'm not gonna lie, it wasn't easy missing the Sphere residency through injury," he said. "But I ignored my symptoms over a few years and just pushed through. Turns out I'm not invincible, and when you don't listen to your body the consequences are inevitable."
Recently, U2 reunited in the studio to record two six-song EPs titled Days of Ash and Easter Lily. These sessions served as warmups for their highly anticipated follow-up to the 2017 album Songs of Experience. According to lead singer Bono, the new material carries a more uplifting and celebratory tone. He described the upcoming songs as "more songs of celebration than lamentation ... more of a defiantly joyful kind of feel to take on these anxious times ... almost a carnival vibe.”
"You can only kick at the darkness for so long. We're going to try and make the light brighter real soon," Bono added, hinting at the optimistic spirit that will define the band’s new work.
