Disney's Live-Action 'Cinderella' Debuts First Trailer
Movie

Director Kenneth Branagh honors the original fairytale but adds a touch of lightness and lavishness.

The first full trailer of Disney's "Cinderella" has arrived, giving audience a story that almost sticks true to the classic fairytale. Cate Blanchett steals the spotlight as Evil Stepmother, who has in her hand, Cinderella's only hope of happiness: the glass slipper.

Kenneth Branagh is directing the live-action movie with Lily James in the titular role. "It's a very unusual project because anybody sitting down almost certainly knows the story. They've had it read to them or they've seen the film. I think we get to refresh, reactive and recreate Cinderella from the inside out," Branagh told E! News. "The honoring of the original comes in, I think, as sort of a lightness of touch and a sort of lavishness."

Another standout point from the movie was the costume department. Sandy Powell was in charge of dressing up Cinderella in her famous blue ball gown. "When I first put it on, I felt both empowered and scared," James told Vogue. "How could I live up to this? Then I realized I could use that fear to show me how Cinderella would feel at that moment."

The slipper was actually made of crystal designed in collaboration with Swarovski. "So besides the fact that Cinderella's slipper is crystal, the shape of the last makes it impossible to walk in," Powell said. "I was amazed that I was allowed to do it - that nobody wondered how they were going to reproduce it for children. But then, I guess the glass slipper is the ultimate fetish shoe, isn't it?"

"Cinderella" hits theaters across the States on March 13, 2015. Helena Bonham Carter stars as Fairy Godmother and Richard Madden plays the Prince Charming.
