'The Voice' Blind Auditions: Pharrell Wins the Best Singers
TV

Pharrell Williams, with his persuasive speeches, manages to add three more singers to his team on the second episode of season 7.

AceShowbiz - Pharrell Williams may be a newbie on "The Voice", but the contestants don't find it difficult to trust his coaching skills. It's proven on Tuesday night, September 23 when he won two acts of three four-chair turns in addition to Danica Shirey, who performed first that night.

Danica wowed Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell with her rendition of Jessie J's "Big White Room" despite claiming that she hadn't been performing since she lost her father three years ago. "He's so fit and I'm so scrawny, but I know what to do with that voice," the "Happy" hitmaker said, referring to Adam. The Pennsylvania mother chose to be on Pharrell's team.

Taylor Phelan made all four coaches push the button when he performed The Neighbourhood's "Sweater Weather". Adam compared his footwork to that of Elvis Presley, while Pharrell said, "I don't know anything about baseball, but I know he just stole a base!" The Christian indie rocker turned graphic designer went with Pharrell.

Maiya Sykes was the last singer in the episode and won the hearts of all four coaches. The Yale graduate with a triple major sang a cover of Sam Smith's "Stay With Me". "I'm only going to push your ambitions, not mine," Pharrell enthusiastically said while standing up. Gwen promised her fancy stuff, "I can get you shoes, handbags - I have access to goods!" Maiya ended up with Pharrell.

Adam, who was quite picky compared to the other coaches, only scored one that night: Joe Kirk. The Nashville teen sang Ed Sheeran's "Lego House" which attracted all four coaches. Blake Shelton tried to win Joe over with their regional connection and pulled a joke on Pharrell's iconic hat. "How hard is it gonna be when he's making you a heartfelt speech and you're waiting for him to make you an Arby's roast beef sandwich?" the country star enthused. Joe chose Adam instead.

Blake and Gwen had a showdown several times, fighting over Menlik Zergabachew among others. Menlik dropped out of high school to play with his reggae band. Gwen turned at the last second after being convinced by Pharrell, and Blake knew he lost his chance. "Damnit, Gwen! ... I wish things had been different," Blake said as Menlik opted to be in Team Gwen.

Blake won Reagan James over Gwen. The Texas teen covered another Ed Sheeran song, "Give Me Love". She wants to pursue R&B which made Pharrell regret that he didn't turn for the 15-year-old professional vocalist.

Blake and Gwen also turned for Sugar Jones, who went with Aretha Franklin's classic "Chain of Fools". Pharrell once again regretted his decision not to press the button. The Los Angeles wedding singer joined Team Gwen after the No Doubt singer touted her soul music experience.

Pharrell and Gwen were vying for Taylor Brashears and Blake later joined at the very last second, claiming that her style was rare on singing competitions, like Whitney Houston. Blake won her.

The Blind Auditions continue next Monday at 8 P.M. on NBC.
