Drew Barrymore issued statement after her half-sister Jessica Barrymore was found dead inside a car in National City, California. "Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible, and I'm so incredibly sorry for their loss," Drew said.

Jessica, who would have turned 48 on July 31, was discovered by a woman named Marta Lopez who found her driveway was blocked by a car when she was trying to leave for work. She said she approached the vehicle and found a female sitting unresponsive behind the wheel.

According to another onlooker Oscar Sandoval, the car had been sitting in the spot since midnight. "Her car was parked right here last night around midnight," Oscar Sandoval told KGTV ABC10. "I thought she was sleeping or waiting for someone."

The identity of the deceased woman hasn't been released by cops, but Lt. Robert Rounds confirmed a female body was indeed found in the National City. "She wasn't moving and was unresponsive, and the officers confirmed she was deceased," the police confirmed to PEOPLE.

Drew, 39, and Jessica share the same father, John Drew Barrymore. Jessica attended the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. The cause of her death is still unknown pending autopsy results, but an energy drink was found between her legs and dozens of white pills was scattered on the passenger seat.

In her final post on Facebook on July 28, Jessica shared a quote from Mystera magazine that read, "Life doesn't always introduce you to the people you WANT to meet. Sometimes, life puts you in touch with the people you NEED to meet to Help You, to Hurt You, to Guide You, to Leave You, to Love You, and to gradually Strengthen You into the Person You Were Meant to Become." She wrote in approval, "Yes!"
