FOX is developing its own comic-adapted TV series. As ABC launches "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and The CW is prepping an "Arrow" spin-off about The Flash, FOX nabs a Batman prequel TV project from Warner Bros. TV and "The Mentalist" creator Bruno Heller with a series commitment.
Dubbed "Gotham", the show will explore the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made the fictitious American city famous. In the story, Gordon who was portrayed by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, is still a detective with the Gotham City Police Department and has yet to meet Batman, who won't be part of the show.
The project reportedly ignited a bidding war before it lands on FOX. Heller will executive and produce the one-hour drama. There's still no word on who will play Gordon on the TV series.
DC comics previously adapted "Birds of Prey" about Gotham City after Batman abandoned it. The show, which debuted in 2002 on The WB (now The CW), was canceled after only 13 episodes.
