The 'American Idol' alum releases a new single after four years and a week of teasing the track online.

"American Idol" season six grand champion Jordin Sparks is back with a new single after four long years since her 2009 sophomore album "Battlefield". Entitled "Skipping a Beat", the track got released on Thursday, August 1, after a week-long teasing done by the 23-year-old singer on her Instagram and Twitter accounts.

With such lyrics as, "Hope I'm the one that you wanna put the rock on," and, "You're my lover, you're my friend, you're my gangsta," it is safe to assume that the love song is about her boyfriend and fellow R'n'B/pop star Jason Derulo. Sparks' Instagram video post where she is seen singing the love anthem to Derulo is also the obvious giveaway.

During the four-year gap between her last album and her new single, Sparks recorded for the soundtrack of her 2012 movie "Sparkle" where she starred opposite the late great singer Whitney Houston. Apart from "Skipping a Beat", she is set to do a duet with Derulo entitled "Before It Breaks".

Sparks is not the only one being inspired and creating music out of her flourishing romance, with Derulo debuting his own "The Other Side" on Ryan Seacrest's radio show back in April. The song appeared as the lead single off his forthcoming third studio album "Tattoos" and it was admittedly about her relationship with Sparks. "We love being able to support each other in what we do," Sparks said about their hit-making partnership.
