The 'Friends in Low Places' singer is 'grateful' for media's attention after his daughter gave birth to a baby girl, but he and family request privacy.

Country singer Garth Brooks becomes a first-time grandpa after his 19-year-old daughter August Anna Brooks gave birth to a baby girl. August Anna and her boyfriend Chance Michael Russell welcomed their first child earlier this week in Oklahoma. The couple's bundle of joy is called Karalynn.
The 51-year-old singer issued a statement following the arrival of his first grandchild, saying that he and his daughter needed some privacy. "Our family would first like to thank everyone for their warm wishes and sweet celebration of Baby K's arrival," he said in a statement, as quoted by CMT News.
"Our children's lives have always been extremely private and they have been endlessly encouraged to be their own people. We have always wanted them to be individuals and not be known as 'someone's daughters'. I have been amazed and grateful how the press has always respected this. I now ask that respect to please continue as this young family begins the greatest days of their lives," he added.
August Anna and Chance apparently have been dating since 2011. The new mother graduated from Owasso High School in 2012 and attended college at the University of Oklahoma. However, she quit after one year.
The Grammy-winning singer is currently in semi-hiatus as he raises his three daughters. Garth and the girls' mother Sandy announced their separation in 2000. He later married his longtime friend Trisha Yearwood in 2005.
