'Game of Thrones' Showrunners Renew Deals for Two More Seasons

Though David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have signed up to shepherd the medieval drama until season 4, HBO has not picked up the show for a fourth season.

Having just wrapped up the second chapter, "Game of Thrones" has secured its showrunners for two more seasons. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have renewed their deals to shepherd the medieval fantasy series until season 4.

Though so, Entertainment Weekly stresses that it does not mean the drama show will automatically get a fourth season pick-up. Back in April, HBO ordered the third season just nine days after premiering the second season.

Benioff and Weiss are currently working on adapting George R.R. Martin's "A Storm of Swords" for season three. "Book three is a blast," said Weiss says. "A very, very big blast." They will return to Croatia, Iceland and Belfast to shoot the upcoming season, with Weiss sharing, "And we might even add a fourth country."

Previously, a bunch of new faces that will appear in the upcoming installment have been revealed. They include Mance Rayder, Jojen and Meera Reed, Ser Brynden Tully and Olenna Redwyne. Benioff said they won't introduce too many characters at the same time, because the story will collapse "under the weight of too many faces, too many names, and too many subplots."
