The highly anticipated duet between Queen and Adam Lambert at the upcoming Sonisphere Festival might not come to fruition. On March 28, the rock band announced on their official website that the Knebworth Park music festival was canceled.

"It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012," the rockers wrote. The announcement was subsequently deleted, but the rumor keeps persistent as ticketing section on the official Sonisphere website is no longer active.

Sonisphere is supposed to be held from July 6 - 8. Queen are scheduled to take the stage with the season 8 runner-up of "American Idol" on July 7. The other performers include KISS, Evanescence, Incubus, Within Temptation, Switchfoot, The Darkness, Wolfmother, Marilyn Manson and Cypress Hill.

According to BBC, organizers are expected to make an official announcement about the cancellation sometime soon.
