While the Ninja Turtles are described as mutants in the original comic book, Bay teases that the upcoming remake will see the quartet as 'alien race.'

Shortly after Paramount Pictures announced the release date for its upcoming "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot, producer Michael Bay dropped a major detail of the movie that might surprise fans of the original comic book. The "Transformers" helmer teased that that the upcoming remake might feature a different take on the origin of the reptilian quartet.
While in the comic book Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael are described as mutant beings, Bay stated that the reboot will see the four turtles as aliens. "These turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable," so he said while attending the 2012 Nickelodeon Upfront at the Lincoln Center in New York.
"When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie," so Bay said of the forthcoming live action/CGI combo movie which cost a reported $100 million to produce.
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on Christmas Day in 2013. Plot details of the upcoming remake movie are still sealed. Nonetheless, it is said that the film will be a new reimagining of the iconic comic and cartoon series. "Wrath of the Titans" helmer Johnathan Liebesman is close to tackle the directing duty.
The original "TMNT" follows a team of anthropomorphic turtles who live in a storm sewer in New York City. After being taught the art of ninjutsu by their rat sensei Splinter, the four battle criminals and alien invaders though they remain isolated from the society.
