And the killings continue. Serial killer drama "Dexter" is set to return for the sixth season and Showtime is getting ready to make a formal announcement in a week or so, THR reported.
In its fifth season, "Dexter" continues to deliver the good numbers needed for a renewal. It steadily absorbs above 1.6 million viewers and recently hit its season high with 2.5 million viewers. The latest number is up 43|percent| from the fifth season premiere.
Although Showtime seems pleased with the rating and once ordered double seasons at the same time, the network is not pulling the same card this time. One season renewal is more likely because some of the key players' contract are up.
It is expected that the season finale in two weeks time would pull a new viewership record. After all, executive producer Sara Colleton has promised that the fifth season finale is going to be "big". She hinted, "[It will ask the question,] 'Wouldn't it be nice if you could escape from your life?'" adding, "When you see the episode, you'll realize what a great title it is."
Showrunner Chip Johannesson also talked about what lies ahead, saying "Season six would definitely not look like it did this year because the events are all different."
