Estranged couple, Madonna and Guy Ritchie, issued a joint statement Wednesday, December 17, pouring cold water to recent report claiming they have reached financial settlement in the divorce with the singer agreeing to pay the film director between $76 million and $92 million. It was the singer's longtime spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, who confirmed that matter to the Associated Press.
Contrary to the claim, Madonna and Guy stated in their joint statement, "We have tried to maintain a dignified silence regarding the details of our divorce for the last few months whilst accepting the obvious media interest." They continued, "A misleading and inaccurate statement, specifically in relation to the sums of money involved, was wrongly issued to AP this week."
Despite the denial, both of them didn't spill the beans on the details of their divorce though. "The financial details of the settlement will remain private, save to say that both of us are happy with our agreement," they claimed. "Our primary concern, like any co-parents, is the care and well being of our children."
Madonna, 50, and Guy Ritchie, 40, were married in a lavish ceremony in Scotland in December 2000. Their divorce was confirmed by her representative, Liz Rosenberg, in October 2008. Granted a preliminary "quickie divorce" on November 21 in the High Court of London, the pair is expected to have their divorce finalized in January 2009.
