AceShowbiz -

For the first time ever in American Idol history, the winner for its new season has been known a week prior. It will be David. With contestant Syesha Mercado being voted off on Wednesday, May 14, the battle for the Season 7 winner is left between two Davids, the 17-year-old Utah native David Archuleta and Missouri rocker, David Cook.

Luck did not follow Mercado anymore for after being several times put on the bottom positions and escaped it, the last standing female contestant finally gave up her position after receiving the lowest vote. The singer who was a waitress before the Idol stint, delivered her rendition of Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You" that was judge Randy Jackson's choice, Peggy Lee's "Fever" as her own choice and Gia Farrell's "Hit Me Up" as producer's choice.

The result show where Mercado was eliminated also saw the return of former Idol winner Fantasia Barrino who brought a performance. The showdown which will be showcased by FOX next week on Tuesday (May 20), will feature the two Davids battling for American votes.
