Professionally known as an R&B singer and songwriter, Mya is making her Broadway debut soon.

The Grammy-winning recording artist, famous for her hit single "Case of the Ex" (2000), is set to take over the role of merry murderess Velma Kelly in the hit Broadway musical "Chicago". She's said to have signed on for a nine-week limited engagement at the Ambassador Theatre, beginning from May 12 to July 13.

"It's something I always wanted to do - sing, dance, act and tell a story," Mya said in a telephone interview. "It's probably the ultimate complete dream for me."

In her preparation to get into the shoes of her character, Mya reportedly has been doing a lot of cardio, muscle strengthening, stretching and making sure she takes her vitamins. "I have gone through all the material with the show's musical director and everything is suited for my key. We don't have to do any transposing. It's perfect," so the songbird said.

Rehearsal is set to begin in April and Mya will star in the musical opposite Bianca Marroquin, a veteran of the Fosse-Kander and Ebb musical in New York and on the road, who will be playing the role of Roxie Hart.
