No big surprise came out from the gala ceremony of this year's British Independent Film Awards as the organizers celebrated it for the tenth time Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at London's Roundhouse.

Top contender "Control", as presumed, became the big winner with five kudos in total, most notably top prize Best British Independent Film. Helmer Anton Corbjin took home two others of Best Director and the Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Director. The rest went to leading actor Sam Riley and co-star Toby Kebbell who were named Most Promising Newcomer and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.

In other acting categories, Manhattan-born thespian Viggo Mortensen landed the Best Actor title for his role in "Eastern Promises" while Judi Dench was deemed the Best Actress for hers in "Notes on a Scandal." The latter flick, released in the U.K. on February 2, 2007, also won writer Patrick Marber the Best Screenplay trophy.

Other winners of the 10th annual British Independent Film Awards were listed as follows:

• Best Documentary - "Joe Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten"
• Best Foreign Independent Feature - "The Lives of Others"
• Best British Short - "Dog Altogether"
• Best Achievement in Production - "Black Gold"
• The Raindance Award - "The Inheritance"
• Best Technical Achievement - Mark Tildesley - Production Design - "Sunshine"
• Special Jury Prize - Andi Engel, Pamela Engel, and Robert Beeson of Artificial Eye
• The Richard Harris Award - Ray Winstone
• The Variety Award - Daniel Craig
