A decades-old injustice ignites a modern-day quest for justice in this compelling historical drama. Helen Mirren stars as Maria Altmann, a resilient Austrian Jewish refugee who, decades after fleeing Vienna during World War II, decides to reclaim a piece of her stolen heritage: a priceless portrait of her beloved aunt, Gustav Klimt's famed "Woman in Gold." With little hope but immense determination, she enlists the help of a young and initially reluctant lawyer, Randy Schoenberg, played by Ryan Reynolds, whose own family history is deeply intertwined with the case. Together, they embark on a formidable legal battle against the Austrian government, confronting painful memories and bureaucratic intransigence as they journey from Los Angeles to the courtrooms of Vienna. Directed by Simon Curtis, the film weaves between the opulent, pre-war Vienna of Maria's youth and the tense present-day struggle, exploring themes of memory, identity, and the enduring power of art. As Maria fights to recover not just a painting, but a vital connection to her lost family and homeland, she and Randy discover that some battles are worth fighting for the soul as much as for justice.
