In this darkly comedic drama from writer Daniel Clowes and director Craig Johnson, Woody Harrelson stars as the titular Wilson, a middle-aged man whose relentless, unfiltered honesty has left him isolated and longing for connection. After his father’s death, the lonely and opinionated Wilson decides to track down his estranged ex-wife, Pippi (played by Laura Dern), only to discover a life-altering secret: he has a teenage daughter named Claire (portrayed by Isabelle Amara) whom he has never known. Driven by a desperate desire to forge the family he never had, Wilson impulsively inserts himself into Claire’s life, dragging the reluctant Pippi along for the ride. His well-meaning but socially oblivious antics quickly create chaos, testing the fragile bonds of this newly formed family. Judy Greer, Mary Lynn Rajskub, and Cheryl Hines co-star in this poignant and often uncomfortable character study that balances sharp, offbeat humor with genuine pathos. The film explores themes of loneliness, the desperate need for human connection, and the messy, unpredictable nature of second chances.
