In the taut horror thriller Strung, a rising young violinist named Eva (played by Chloe Bailey) lands a coveted spot in a prestigious, cutthroat orchestra, only to discover that the path to perfection demands a terrifying price. Under the icy, demanding mentorship of the orchestra’s formidable conductor (portrayed by Lynn Whitfield), Eva is pushed to her physical and psychological limits. Her intense rivalry with a gifted fellow musician (played by Anna Diop) is further complicated by a burgeoning romance with a charismatic cellist (portrayed by Lucien Laviscount), who may have secrets of his own. As Eva’s desperate need to excel grows, she stumbles into a dark underworld where an ancient, supernatural force offers unparalleled talent in exchange for a soul-crushing sacrifice. Directed by Malcolm D. Lee, Strung weaves a chilling atmosphere of ambition and dread, forcing Eva to confront how far she is willing to go for her art before the strings of her own life are irrevocably pulled taut.
