In the chilling psychological thriller Piercing, directed by Nicolas Pesce, a seemingly ordinary man named Reed (played by Christopher Abbott) meticulously plans to murder a prostitute as a way to confront his own violent urges before they endanger his wife and newborn daughter. He leaves his quiet suburban home, checking into a sterile hotel room with a suitcase full of carefully prepared tools, convinced he is in complete control of his dark compulsion. However, his calculated scheme unravels when he hires Jackie (portrayed by Mia Wasikowska), a mysterious and unpredictable sex worker whose own hidden agenda and unnerving detachment turn the tables on her would-be killer. What unfolds is a tense, stylish, and macabre game of cat and mouse, where predator and prey become indistinguishable. Set within the claustrophobic confines of a single hotel room, the film’s atmosphere is steeped in a surreal, almost hypnotic dread, blending graphic horror with darkly comedic undertones. As Reed and Jackie engage in a dangerous psychological dance, each attempting to outmaneuver the other, the line between fantasy and reality blurs, leading to a shocking and unsettling confrontation that neither party could have anticipated.
