In this rollicking comedy from director Stephen Herek, Tommy Lee Jones stars as Roland Sharp, a no-nonsense Texas Ranger whose gruff exterior hides a steadfast commitment to justice. When a key federal witness is murdered, Sharp is assigned to protect the only other people who can testify against a dangerous crime boss: the University of Texas cheerleading squad. The problem is that Sharp, a man who thrives on order and solitude, must now live under the same roof as five bubbly, chaotic young women. Led by the strong-willed Anne (c=Anne Archer), the squad is initially resistant to Sharp’s rigid rules and boot-camp style of protection. As Sharp attempts to teach them basic survival skills while keeping their spirits high, he finds himself in a constant battle of wills with the cheerleaders, including the ambitious Paige (c=Monica Keena) and the sharp-tongued Theresa (c=Christina Milian). The central conflict emerges as Sharp must balance his traditional law enforcement methods with the unpredictable nature of his charges, all while a ruthless killer closes in. Blending slapstick humor with heartfelt moments, the film explores themes of teamwork and unexpected mentorship, delivering a fun, action-packed ride.
