In the sun-drenched, slow-moving days of a 1990s summer, two brothers find their ordinary lives upended by a legendary local tale. Liam Aiken and Charlie Tahan star as siblings who, fueled by adolescent boredom and a yearning for adventure, become obsessed with catching a mythical giant catfish rumored to lurk in the waters near their town. Their quest quickly pulls in a small crew of neighborhood kids, including the determined Sadie Calvano and the free-spirited Eden Brolin, transforming a simple fishing trip into a defining journey. Under the direction of Sean Nalaboff, this coming-of-age adventure captures the potent mix of freedom and anxiety that defines a teenage summer, where every challenge feels epic and every secret feels world-ending. With their parents, played by Molly Ringwald and Bruce Altman, largely unaware of the escalating mission, the group navigates shifting loyalties, first loves, and the daunting wilderness, all while the line between local folklore and tangible danger begins to blur. "Kingfish" is a nostalgic and heartfelt ode to the last great adventures of youth, where the real catch isn't just a fish, but a glimpse into the adults they are destined to become.
