An urban love story about people adrift and their convoluted journeys in the search for some kind of love. A misguided...
In the tender and emotionally resonant romance Girls Like Girls, directed by Hayley Kiyoko, a young woman named Maya (played by Maya da Costa) finds her world turned upside down when she meets the captivating and free-spirited Myra (portrayed by Myra Molloy). Set against a backdrop of small-town summer stagnation, Maya is grappling with the recent loss of her mother and a strained relationship with her distant father. When Myra moves in next door, their instant connection blossoms into an intense friendship that quickly deepens into something more profound. However, their burgeoning love is complicated by the presence of Maya’s protective but controlling boyfriend (played by Levon Hawke) and the judgmental eyes of their conservative community. As Maya navigates her own identity and the thrill of a first love, she must summon the courage to embrace her true feelings, even if it means risking everything she has known. With a heartfelt performance from its cast, including Zach Braff in a supporting role, this coming-of-age story beautifully captures the ache, joy, and defiance of young queer love.
