Thirty years after the events of the original film, Prince Akeem of Zamunda, played by Eddie Murphy, is about to become king, but a shocking revelation forces him to return to America. During a long-ago trip to Queens, Akeem fathered a son, Lavelle, portrayed by Jermaine Fowler, now a grown man living in New York. With the kingdom's law requiring a male heir to ascend the throne, Akeem and his loyal aide Semmi, again played by Arsenio Hall, travel back to the United States to find Lavelle and bring him to Zamunda. This comedic sequel blends culture clash humor with heartfelt family dynamics as Lavelle must navigate the lavish but rigid traditions of his newfound royal heritage. Wesley Snipes joins the cast as a menacing general with his own ambitions, while James Earl Jones returns as the aging King Jaffe Joffer. Directed by Craig Brewer, the film maintains the original's warm, over-the-top comedy while exploring themes of legacy, duty, and the true meaning of being a king.
