The Ready Set
The Ready Set is the solo musical project of American singer-songwriter Jordan Witzigreuter, best known for crafting infectious, synth-driven pop anthems that defined a segment of late-2000s and early-2010s youth culture. Emerging from the online music scene, the act achieved mainstream recognition with the platinum-selling single "Love Like Woe," a track that became a ubiquitous presence on radio and in popular media, cementing The Ready Set's place in the pop landscape. As the sole permanent member, Witzigreuter has sustained a prolific career across multiple albums and evolving sounds, while also branching out into other musical ventures and entrepreneurship.
Born Jordan Mark Witzigreuter on November 14, 1989, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he developed an early interest in music, learning to play drums and later teaching himself production. His initial foray into the public sphere came through the social media platform Myspace, where he began posting homemade recordings that blended pop-punk energy with electronic beats. This DIY approach quickly garnered a significant online following, leading to the release of early independent EPs and his debut studio album, Syntax and Bright Lights, in 2007 under the moniker The Ready Set.
The project's major breakthrough arrived in 2010 with the release of the single "Love Like Woe" from his major-label debut album, I'm Alive, I'm Dreaming. The song became a crossover smash, reaching the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieving platinum certification, propelled by its inclusion in soundtracks for The Hills and The Vampire Diaries. This success established The Ready Set as a prominent figure on the Warped Tour circuit and within the pop-rock scene. He continued to release music steadily, including albums like The Bad & the Better (2014) and I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love (2016), which showcased a maturation of his songwriting and production.
In a creative pivot, Witzigreuter briefly released music under the alias Onlychild from 2019 to 2022, exploring a different sonic direction through singles and the EP Solstice. He also co-founded the synthpop band Nekokat alongside Cameron Walker and Jess Bowen of The Summer Set. Demonstrating a commitment to fostering new talent, Witzigreuter and Walker launched the independent music label Swim Team Records in 2021. The label has featured artists like Future Coyote and TALKBAK, and its music has been utilized in promotions for major events like the PGA Tour. The Ready Set project remains active, with the 2023 album Cherryland marking his sixth studio release, illustrating Witzigreuter's enduring dedication to his craft as both a singular artist and a collaborative force within the industry.
