Suga, born Min Yoongi on March 9, 1993, in Daegu, South Korea, is a rapper, songwriter, and record producer who achieved global fame as a member of the groundbreaking K-pop group BTS. Known for his sharp lyricism, intricate production, and introspective solo work under the alias Agust D, he has cemented his status as one of the most influential artists in contemporary music, both within the group and as a formidable solo act. His journey from a trainee in Seoul to an international superstar is a testament to his raw talent and dedication to his craft.

Growing up in Daegu, Suga developed an early interest in music, particularly hip-hop, and began writing lyrics and composing in his teens. He worked part-time jobs to support his musical aspirations before joining Big Hit Entertainment as a trainee. Initially aiming for a career as a producer, he instead debuted as a rapper in the seven-member boy band BTS in June 2013. The group's rapid ascent to worldwide prominence provided the platform for Suga's skills to reach a massive audience, with his songwriting and production becoming integral to BTS's signature sound and deeply personal discography.

While achieving immense success with BTS, Suga simultaneously cultivated a distinct solo identity. In 2016, he released his first solo mixtape, Agust D, under his alternative stage name, a raw and aggressive project that delved into his personal struggles with mental health, societal pressure, and his past. The mixtape was re-released on major platforms in 2018, charting internationally and solidifying his reputation as a serious solo artist. His production work also extended beyond the group, most notably on Suran's 2017 single "Wine," which won Best R&B Track at the Melon Music Awards.

His second mixtape, D-2, arrived in 2020 to critical and commercial acclaim, peaking at number 11 on the US Billboard 200 and showcasing his evolved musicality. Suga's solo endeavors reached a new peak in 2023 with his first official solo album, D-Day. Supported by a world tour and a accompanying documentary series, the album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, tying him with his bandmate Jimin for the highest-charting South Korean solo artist in history. As a full member of the Korea Music Copyright Association, he holds credits on over 160 songs. Beyond music, he has engaged in significant philanthropy, making generous donations to causes in his hometown and for social welfare. Suga continues to balance his work with BTS with his successful solo career, remaining a pivotal figure in shaping the sound and message of modern pop music.
