Formed in Sydney, Australia in 1997, Sick Puppies carved a distinct path in the rock world, known for their melodic yet aggressive sound and a viral moment that propelled them to international fame. The band's core duo, bassist Emma Anzai and singer-guitarist Shimon Moore, met in high school and solidified their lineup with drummer Chris Mileski. They built a dedicated following in their homeland, releasing their independent debut album Welcome to the Real World in 2001, which showcased their blend of alternative rock and post-grunge energy.

The trajectory of Sick Puppies changed dramatically in 2006. The band's song "All the Same" was used as the soundtrack for a video promoting the Free Hugs Campaign, created by Juan Mann. The emotionally charged video, featuring the uplifting track, became a global internet phenomenon, amassing tens of millions of views and introducing the band to a massive new audience. This viral success directly fueled their major-label debut, Dressed Up as Life, released in 2007, with "All the Same" serving as its cornerstone single. The album was a commercial breakthrough, peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart and establishing them as a force in the modern rock scene.

Capitalizing on this momentum, Sick Puppies released Tri-Polar in 2009, which contained their biggest charting hits. The singles "You're Going Down" and "Maybe" both reached No. 1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, while "Riptide" also enjoyed significant airplay. The album achieved Gold certification in the United States, a testament to their growing popularity. They followed this with Connect in 2013, which debuted at No. 17 on the Billboard 200. However, internal tensions culminated in 2014 when Shimon Moore was acrimoniously dismissed from the band. He was replaced by vocalist and guitarist Bryan Scott, marking a new chapter for the group.

With Scott, Sick Puppies released Fury in 2016, demonstrating a renewed creative direction. The band continued to tour and write, eventually returning with their sixth studio album, Wave the Bull, in March 2025. Throughout their career, marked by both viral internet fame and significant rock radio success, Sick Puppies have maintained a resilient presence, evolving their lineup and sound while retaining a core identity built on powerful riffs and anthemic choruses.
