Nikki Sixx
Nikki Sixx, born Frank Carlton Serafino Feranna Jr. on December 11, 1958, in San Jose, California, is an American musician best known as the co-founder, bassist, and primary songwriter of the legendary heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. His journey from a tumultuous childhood to becoming a rock icon is a story of survival, creativity, and reinvention that has left an indelible mark on the music industry. As the only constant member of Mötley Crüe, Sixx's songwriting fueled the band's massive success, penning anthems like "Shout at the Devil," "Girls, Girls, Girls," and "Dr. Feelgood."
Abandoned by his father and raised by his mother, Deana Richards, and grandparents, Sixx found solace in music, moving to Los Angeles as a teenager to pursue his dreams. Before forming Mötley Crüe in 1981, he played in bands like Sister and London. With Mötley Crüe, which included Vince Neil, Mick Mars, and Tommy Lee, Sixx helped define the glam metal era of the 1980s. The band's combination of hard rock, outrageous stage personas, and notorious lifestyle led to multi-platinum albums and global fame, though Sixx's personal struggles with substance abuse nearly ended his life, most famously when he was declared clinically dead from a heroin overdose in 1987 before being revived.
Beyond Mötley Crüe, Sixx has consistently explored other creative avenues. He formed the hard rock supergroup Brides of Destruction with Tracii Guns of L.A. Guns in 2002. In 2006, he founded the band Sixx:A.M. with vocalist James Michael and guitarist DJ Ashba, initially to create a soundtrack for his harrowing autobiography, "The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star." The book and its accompanying music were critical successes, showcasing his depth as a writer. He has also worked as a songwriter and producer for artists including Alice Cooper, Meat Loaf, and Lita Ford.
Sixx's career extends into media and business. From 2010, he hosted the nationally syndicated radio programs "Sixx Sense" and "The Side Show Countdown" with Jenn Marino. He launched the clothing line Royal Underground and has established himself as a respected photographer. His personal life, including his marriages to model Brandi Brandt and actress Donna D'Errico, has often been in the public eye. Through it all, Nikki Sixx remains a multifaceted artist, a survivor, and the driving creative force behind one of rock's most enduring and infamous bands, whose story was immortalized in the bestselling biography and film adaptation, The Dirt.
