Timothy Cornell Patterson, known professionally as Mozzy, is an American rapper and songwriter from Sacramento, California, who has built a reputation as one of the most prolific and consistent voices in West Coast street rap. Born on June 24, 1987, in the Oak Park neighborhood of Sacramento, Patterson began his recording career at a young age in 1999 under the name Lil Tim. Over the following years, he steadily developed his craft, releasing a stream of independent projects that helped him cultivate a devoted regional following before breaking through to wider recognition.
Mozzy's breakthrough arrived with the 2015 mixtape Bladadah, a project that earned widespread critical acclaim and was ranked by Rolling Stone as the 22nd Best Rap Album of that year. Complex likewise praised the release, crediting him with the "best run" of 2015. The momentum carried into his studio album catalog, with each of his first seven full-length efforts—1 Up Top Ahk (2017), Gangland Landlord (2018), Beyond Bulletproof (2020), Occupational Hazard (2020), Untreated Trauma (2021), Survivor's Guilt (2022), and Children of the Slums (2024)—entering the Billboard 200. He also found chart success through collaboration, releasing the joint album Kommunity Service with fellow California rapper YG in 2021.
Beyond his solo work, Mozzy became a prominent figure within the Collective Music Group (CMG) roster. After previously releasing music through the independent label Black Market Records, he signed with Yo Gotti's CMG, an imprint of Interscope Records, in 2022. That same year, he contributed to the CMG compilation Gangsta Art, and he followed with Gangsta Art 2 in 2023. His highest-profile mainstream moment came in 2021 with the single "Last One Standing," a collaboration with Skylar Grey, Polo G, and Eminem recorded for the film Venom: Let There Be Carnage. The track peaked at number 78 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking a significant crossover achievement for the Sacramento artist.
Mozzy continues to be recognized for his tireless work ethic and his commitment to representing his hometown. With a deep catalog of albums and mixtapes, a major-label affiliation, and a charting soundtrack single to his name, he remains an influential figure in contemporary rap, balancing prolific independent output with high-profile collaborations.
