Masiela Lusha, born on October 23, 1985, is an Albanian-born American actress, author, and humanitarian who first captured widespread attention for her role as Carmen Lopez on the globally syndicated ABC sitcom George Lopez. Her portrayal of the sharp-witted and often exasperated daughter of the title character earned her two consecutive Young Artist Awards for Leading Young Actress in a Comedy or Drama, establishing her as a promising talent in the early 2000s. Lusha’s career has since spanned film, television, literature, and philanthropic work, showcasing a versatility that extends well beyond her breakout sitcom role.
Lusha made her acting debut in the 2001 film Summoning and that same year appeared on television for the first time in an episode of the Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire. She quickly found steady work in children’s programming, voicing a main character in the PBS animated series Clifford's Puppy Days from 2003 to 2005. During this period, she also took on guest roles in primetime dramas such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent and later appeared in the comedy series Anger Management. Her transition to film saw her star in a diverse array of projects, including the action-horror film Blood: The Last Vampire for Sony Pictures, the indie drama Time of the Comet, and the thriller Kill Katie Malone. In a notable television movie, she joined David Hasselhoff and Ian Ziering in the SyFy original Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, further broadening her genre range. Other film credits include Cherry Bomb, My Father's Eulogy, Muertas, Ballad of Broken Angels, Dragonfyre, The Architect, Of Silence, Fatal Instinct, and Branded.
Beyond her acting career, Lusha has established herself as a published author and poet. She has written five collections of poetry—Inner Thoughts, Drinking the Moon, Amore Celeste, The Call, and The Living Air—as well as a novel titled The Besa, and two children’s books. Her work often incorporates her Albanian heritage, and she has translated poetry and prayers by Mother Teresa into Albanian. Lusha is also deeply committed to humanitarian causes. In 2010, she was appointed an ambassador for Prince Harry’s charity Sentebale, which supports children and young people affected by HIV/AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana. In 2014, she was named a goodwill ambassador for the World Assembly of Youth, and she actively advocates for UN Women, focusing on gender equality and women’s empowerment. Through her multifaceted career, Masiela Lusha has demonstrated a dedication to both the arts and global social issues, maintaining a presence as a performer and a voice for positive change.
