Marie Osmond
Olive Marie Osmond, born on October 13, 1959, in Ogden, Utah, is an American singer, actress, television personality, author, and businesswoman. Known for her girl-next-door image, she has maintained a diverse and successful career spanning several decades. Osmond first gained fame as a country music artist, with her hit single "Paper Roses," released when she was just 14 years old, making her the youngest female act to achieve a number-one country single on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
Growing up as the eighth of nine children in the Osmond family, Marie was immersed in music from an early age. Her early television debut was on The Andy Williams Show, where she showcased her musical talents. At age 13, she began her career as a country recording artist, which led to her collaborating with her brother, Donny Osmond. This partnership blossomed into their own syndicated variety show, Donny & Marie, which aired until 1979 and solidified their status as household names.
In the 1980s, the Osmond family faced financial difficulties, prompting Marie to perform with her siblings as they navigated this challenging period. During this time, she attempted to expand her acting career, launching the variety show Marie. However, she soon refocused on her musical career and signed with Capitol Records in 1985. Between 1985 and 1990, she achieved three number-one singles, including "Meet Me in Montana" and "There's No Stopping Your Heart," and released several albums, including There's No Stopping Your Heart.
The 1990s saw Osmond venture into new territories, including doll collection, which became a successful product line sold through QVC. In 1994, she made her Broadway debut in the classic musical The King and I. From 1998 to 2000, she reunited with Donny for their talk show, Donny & Marie, during which she bravely addressed her struggles with postpartum depression, a topic later explored in her book, Behind the Smile: My Journey Out of Postpartum Depression.
In 2004, she hosted her own radio series titled Marie & Friends. In 2007, she participated in the reality competition series Dancing with the Stars, showcasing her dance skills to a new audience. Marie and Donny continued their collaboration with a residency at the Flamingo hotel in Las Vegas from 2008 to 2019, where their performances were well-received, and they also produced an album of their duets in 2009.
Osmond has continued to release music, with her solo studio album I Can Do This debuting in 2010, followed by her country album Music Is Medicine in 2016, and a classical album titled Unexpected in 2021. She also served as a co-host on The Talk from 2019 to 2020, further solidifying her presence in the television landscape. In recent years, she has appeared in several Lifetime television films, including The Christmas Edition in 2020, showcasing her versatility and enduring appeal as an entertainer.
