Born Lucian Gabriel Wiina Msamati on March 5, 1976 in the United Kingdom, he spent his childhood in Tanzania before returning to the UK for his education. His passion for performance led him to co-found the acclaimed Tiata Fahodzi theatre company, dedicated to presenting African diaspora stories. Msamati's early career was firmly rooted in theatre, where he quickly built a reputation for powerful performances. A major breakthrough came in 2008 when he played the title role in Brecht's The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui at the Lyric Hammersmith.
