KONGOS emerged as a distinctive force in alternative rock, a band of four brothers from South Africa who carved a unique path by blending gritty rock energy with the unconventional rhythms of the accordion. The group, formed in 2007 in Johannesburg, consisted of brothers Johnny, Jesse, Dylan, and Daniel Kongos, sons of the renowned 1970s British rock singer-songwriter John Kongos. Their familial bond and shared musical upbringing provided a solid foundation, allowing them to develop a cohesive and powerful sound from the outset.

The band's early years were spent honing their craft and building a following in South Africa before they relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, seeking to expand their reach. Their self-titled debut album, released independently in 2007, introduced their signature style. However, it was their sophomore effort, "Lunatic," initially self-released in 2011, that became their breakthrough project. The album's lead single, "Come with Me Now," exploded in popularity several years after its initial release, fueled by extensive use in television commercials, movie trailers, and video games. Its driving beat, anchored by Johnny Kongos' accordion, became instantly recognizable, propelling the song to multi-platinum status and to the top of the Billboard Alternative Songs chart in 2014.

The massive success of "Come with Me Now" led to a major label re-release of "Lunatic" through Epic Records and ignited a whirlwind period for the brothers. They embarked on extensive international touring, performing at major festivals and supporting acts like Linkin Park and The Rolling Stones. Their follow-up album, "Egomaniac" (2016), debuted in the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 and spawned another alternative radio hit with "Take It from Me," further cementing their place on the rock scene. The band continued to operate with a strong sense of independence, eventually forming their own label, Tokoloshe Records, under which they released their third studio album, "1929," in 2019.
