Josh Adam Klinghoffer, born on October 3, 1979, is an American musician whose versatile career has seen him serve as a guitarist for some of the most iconic rock bands of his generation. He is best known for his tenure with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, a role he held from 2007 to 2019, during which he recorded two studio albums with the group, I'm with You (2011) and The Getaway (2016), as well as the B-sides compilation I'm Beside You (2013). Klinghoffer, a close friend and frequent collaborator of John Frusciante, officially stepped into Frusciante's shoes as the band's guitarist in 2009 after initially joining as a touring rhythm guitarist. At just 32 years old, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2012, making him the youngest inductee at that time.

Klinghoffer's musical journey began long before his high-profile stint with the Chili Peppers, as he established himself as a prolific multi-instrumentalist in the Los Angeles music scene. He lent his talents as a session and touring musician to a diverse array of artists, including PJ Harvey, Beck, Iggy Pop, Elton John, Butthole Surfers, Vincent Gallo, Sparks, Golden Shoulders, Cate Le Bon, the Armed, and Redd Kross. His collaborative spirit also led him to be a member of several bands, including the experimental trio Ataxia, the all-female group Warpaint, and the Bicycle Thief. As a bandleader, Klinghoffer fronts the alternative rock group Dot Hacker, showcasing his songwriting and vocal abilities alongside his instrumental prowess.

Following his departure from the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2019, Klinghoffer seamlessly transitioned into new collaborative roles, becoming a touring and session member of both Pearl Jam since 2021 and Jane's Addiction in 2023. In addition to his work with these legendary acts, he has maintained a robust solo career under the pseudonym Pluralone, a name that originally served as a working title for Dot Hacker. Under this moniker, he has released four solo albums: To Be One with You (2019), I Don't Feel Well (2020), This Is the Show (2022), and A Drop in the Ocean (2026), along with a number of non-album singles and B-sides. Klinghoffer's career is a testament to his adaptability and deep musicality, allowing him to move fluidly between the roles of sideman, frontman, and solo artist while leaving an indelible mark on the modern rock landscape.
