Jenson Alexander Lyons Button is a British former racing driver who etched his name into sporting history as the Formula One World Champion of 2009. His career, spanning 18 seasons in the pinnacle of motorsport, was defined by perseverance, a famously smooth driving style, and a fairytale championship victory that captured the global imagination. From his debut in 2000 to his final race in 2017, Button became one of the most popular and respected figures in F1, known for his strategic intelligence and affable personality.

Born in Frome, Somerset, Button was introduced to karting at the age of eight by his father, John Button, a former rallycross driver. He demonstrated prodigious talent from the start, winning multiple British and European karting championships throughout his youth. His rapid progression continued in car racing, with titles in the British Formula Ford Championship in 1998 and a strong rookie campaign in British Formula 3 the following year, which paved his way to Formula One.

Button made his grand prix debut in 2000 with the Williams team, immediately marking himself as a future star. His early career saw him move between teams, driving for Benetton, which became Renault, and then BAR Honda. It was with BAR in 2004 that he truly emerged as a front-runner, finishing a brilliant third in the world championship. His long-awaited first Grand Prix victory finally arrived at the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix, driving for Honda, in his 113th attempt. However, the pinnacle of his career followed a period of uncertainty when Honda withdrew from the sport in late 2008.

The 2009 season became the stuff of legend. Ross Brawn led a management buyout of the team, forming Brawn GP, and equipped Button with a revolutionary car. He seized the opportunity with both hands, winning six of the first seven races. Despite a mid-season challenge from Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull, Button held his nerve to clinch the Drivers' Championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix, a triumph that also secured the Constructors' title for the fairy-tale Brawn squad. For 2010, he moved to McLaren, where he partnered fellow British champion Lewis Hamilton. Their competitive but respectful relationship yielded further success, including a dramatic victory in the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix, and Button finished as championship runner-up that year.

After leaving McLaren at the end of 2016, Button officially retired from full-time F1, making a one-off return to substitute for Fernando Alonso at the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix. His post-F1 career has been diverse and successful. He won the prestigious Super GT Series championship in Japan in 2018, sharing a Honda with Naoki Yamamoto.
