Dolores Janney "Jenni" Rivera was an influential American singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman, recognized as one of the most important figures in regional Mexican music. Born on July 2, 1969, in Long Beach, California, she rose to prominence through her powerful voice and her ability to address social issues within her music. Rivera's impact on the industry was so significant that she was posthumously named the top Latin artist of 2013 by Billboard and remains one of the best-selling female artists in the genre.

Rivera's early life was shaped by her Mexican heritage, with a father, Pedro Rivera, who was also a musician. She began her career in music in 1992, initially releasing her first studio album, Poco a Poco, in the mid-1990s. Although the album did not achieve commercial success, Rivera's determination led her to continue producing music. She gained widespread recognition with her 2005 album, Parrandera, Rebelde y Atrevida, which marked a turning point in her career and solidified her popularity in both the United States and Mexico.

As Rivera's career progressed, she faced challenges, particularly in a male-dominated genre.
