CyHi The Prynce Biography

news-detailsCydel Charles Young, known professionally as CyHi The Prynce, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter who has built a formidable reputation both as a solo artist and as one of the most sought-after ghostwriters in contemporary hip-hop. Born on September 15, 1984, in Stone Mountain, Georgia, he emerged from the Atlanta-area rap scene to become a key creative force behind some of the most acclaimed projects of the 2010s, all while cultivating a distinctive solo catalog defined by conscious and politically charged lyricism.

CyHi's career gained significant momentum in 2009 when he signed a major label recording contract with Akon's Konvict Muzik, in a joint venture with Def Jam Recordings. The following year proved to be a breakout period for the young rapper, as he earned mainstream attention for his guest appearance alongside Jay-Z, Pusha T, Swizz Beatz, and RZA on Kanye West's 2010 song "So Appalled," a track featured on West's critically acclaimed album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. His association with West deepened considerably from that point forward, leading to extensive songwriting work on West's subsequent releases. That partnership yielded five Grammy Award nominations for Best Rap Song, and he added yet another nomination for his contributions to Travis Scott's 2018 single "Sicko Mode."

Beyond his behind-the-scenes work, CyHi has released nine mixtapes, many of which showcase conscious or political themes exploring the history and social affairs of Black people in America. This thematic ambition distinguished him within the Atlanta rap landscape and demonstrated his range beyond radio-friendly fare. After parting ways with Def Jam in 2015, he signed with Sony Music to release his long-delayed debut studio album, No Dope on Sundays, in 2017. The album, executive produced by Kanye West, was met with critical praise and modestly entered the Billboard 200, marking a significant milestone in his solo career.

CyHi The Prynce remains a respected figure in hip-hop, admired for his sharp pen game, thoughtful subject matter, and the dual legacy of his own recordings and the chart-topping hits he has helped craft for others. His journey from a Stone Mountain hopeful to a Grammy-nominated songwriter and solo artist reflects both creative persistence and a rare versatility that continues to define his career.
