Less than one month after announcing that she is quitting country music, the 'My Church' songstress stresses that the music genre is not 'something you can really leave.'

AceShowbiz - Maren Morris has changed her mind on leaving country music despite her initial claim. Less than one month after announcing that she is quitting the music genre, the "My Church" songstress clarified her statement.

When making an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon", the 33-year-old singer/songwriter elaborated her previous claim suggesting that she "had to take a step back" from country music. Speaking to host Jimmy Fallon in the Tuesday, November 7 episode, she said, "Well, I don't think it's something you can really leave."

On the reason why, Maren explained, "Because it's the music that's in me and that's what I grew up doing." She went on to elaborate, "It's the music I write, even if I've been sort of genre fluid my whole career. You can't, like, scrub the country music out."

The "Middle" singer continued, "So it was very, like, hyperbolic, but you know headlines are different than the things you actually say." In response, Jimmy asked, "So you're not leaving country music?" She replied, "No, no. I'm taking like the good parts with me. And all are welcome. But yeah, there were some, you know, facets of it that I didn't really, like, jive with anymore."

During the chat, Maren also discussed her EP titled "The Bridge", which was released in March by Columbia. "I wrote these two songs 'The Tree' and 'Get the Hell Out of Here'. And I just felt like I was leaving some things in country music behind that didn't really, like, serve me anymore. And so, it felt like calling it 'The Bridge' felt like just the step to the next thing, whatever that is," she explained.

Previously, Maren declared that country music "no longer" makes her "happy." In an interview with the Los Angeles Times published on September 15, she stated, "I'm trying to mature here and realize I can just walk away from the parts of this that no longer make me happy."

"I had to take a step back," she continued. "The way I grew up was so wrapped in country music, and the way I write songs is very lyrically structured in the Nashville way of doing things. But I think I needed to purposely focus on just making good music and not so much on how we'll market it. The last few records, that's always been in the back of my mind, 'Will this work in the country music universe?' "
