The showrunner teases that he will kill Rick 'eventually' as Rick 'will suffer any loss, even his own self' for his people and other people.

AceShowbiz - Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is a character who is willing to do or give everything for his community and keep them safe on "The Walking Dead". Showrunner Scott Gimple opened up in a recent interview that Rick may take his sacrifice into an extreme level, which also means giving away his life for others.

Gimple revealed that things wouldn't be easy for Rick in the upcoming season 8, which is set to kick off production in Georgia. The showrunner added that Rick would "suffer any loss, even his own self to give his people and other people the life that they should live." He further explained that Rick wanted his people to live in a world which belonged "to all of them and not just one person. A real life."

Ever since leaving Atlanta, Rick had been wanting to find a civilization. However, he later realized that the only viable option was to rebuild a world of his own. "That's the only choice. So he's willing to face the losses," Gimple divulged.

Gimple, however, added that Rick would not be a cold-hearted leader just because he knew deaths were something that might be necessary. "It isn't that he's willing to shake them off if they were to occur, or immediately rationalize them away, but he understands the enormity of what they are doing and the enormity of the possible cost," said Gimple.

Gimple's revelation reminds fans of Rick's conversation with Michonne in episode 12 of season 7. Rick told his girlfriend if either one of them were to die, the other had to continue rebuilding the world. Either way, killing Rick may serve as a major deviation from the source material. Up until #165 issues of the comic series, Rick is still depicted alive and well despite losing one of his hands.

Meanwhile, "The Walking Dead" has found the director for its season 8 premiere episode, which also marks the 100th episode of the series. The yet-to-be-titled episode will be directed by executive producer Greg Nicotero, Comic Book reports.

Nicotero previously directed a good number of episodes of the series, with the season 7 finale, "The First Day of the Rest of Your Life", being the most recent episode the executive producer directed. The first episode of season 8 marks the 21st episode directed by Nicotero, after debuting with "Judge, Jury, Executioner" in season 2.

Gimple previously described the upcoming season 8 as something which would "melt people's minds" and made viewers "break their TV's." Recently, it was reported that the series upped Pollyanna McIntosh, Steven Ogg and Katelyn Nacon to series regulars for season 8.

"The Walking Dead" returns in October for season 8. Exact premiere date and the first trailer will be revealed later in July at Comic-Con.
