Couric calls the replacement rumor 'crazy,' while ABC says, 'There is absolutely no truth to this rumor whatsoever, it's completely erroneous.'

AceShowbiz - Katie Couric has not been tapped to replace Barbara Walters on "The View" just yet. After rumor spread like wild fire that the former "Today" anchor was set to fill the seat when the veteran journalist begins her retirement in summer 2014, the story is quickly denied by both parties.

"Wow! Appreciate the interest but... completely not true. Crazy how these things get repeated. Guess it's just the world we live in!" the "Katie" host tweeted in response to fans' excitement at the prospect of seeing her on the ABC talk show.

A spokesperson for ABC tells TheWrap, "There is absolutely no truth to this rumor whatsoever, it's completely erroneous." Walters also sets things straight by saying in a statement to E! News, "I love Katie and we are good friends. She is always welcome as a guest on 'The View', and I was recently a guest on her show, but there is no truth to the rumor that she will be taking my place on 'The View'."

NY Daily News was the first to report that Couric would take over Walters' post on "The View". A source says her talk show "Katie" will likely be canceled by ABC this winter but she may eventually be chosen as Walters' replacement.
