Elena and Damon are still happy together, but Katherine's return may foil the couple's bliss.

AceShowbiz - Nina Dobrev is going to cozy up with Paul Wesley on "The Vampire Diaries" set, but not because Elena is back with Stefan. In a promo for the season 5 premiere of the show, Silas, now taking the form of Stefan, is seen stroking Katherine's (Dobrev) cheek and telling her she looks good human.
Damon, on the other hand, is not too amused that Katherine returns. He and Elena, who is now off at college, are still together and happy for the time being, "but their bliss will be foiled - yet again - by Katherine, who'll be back to meddle in everyone's lives," according to Adam Bryant of TV Guide.
"The Vampire Diaries" returns Thursday, October 3 at 8/7c on The CW with "I Know What You Did Last Summer". It takes place several months after the shocking finale left Elena in Damon's arms, Stefan six feet under water and Bonnie on the wrong side of the veil. Elena and Caroline are moving into their new dorm at Whitmore College and Katherine has been staying at Chez Salvatore all summer long.
