Kristen Stewart Might Get the Leading Lady Role in 'Akira'

The Bella Swan of the 'Twilight Saga' film series has been offered to play Kei, a love interest of male lead Kaneda, in the anime-adapted movie.

could land another leading lady role in a feature film. Words are, the actress who is famously known for playing Bella Swan in the " Saga" film series has been offered to take on the female lead in Japanese anime-adapted movie, "".

According to Twitch, Stewart is expected to tackle the part of Kei, a young woman who is also the love interest of main protagonist Kaneda. Previously, it was reported that "" actor has been formally offered the part of Kaneda.

Based on Katsuhiro Otomo's cyberpunk manga, "Akira" follows Kaneda, a leader of motorcycle gang known as "The Capsules", who must save his best friend Tetsuo from being a medical experiment of the government. Jaume Collet-Serra has been tapped to direct with "Harry Potter" writer Steve Kloves penning the script. will produce along with Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Andrew Lazar.

Back in 2008, Warners obtained the rights to "Akira" for a seven-figure deal from Kodansha. However, the development of this project was long-delayed due to budgetary issue before the studio finally gave a green light to the project in October.

As for Stewart, the 21-year-old actress will soon be seen reprising her role as Bella Swan in "", which will open wide in the U.S. on November 18. Her next movie is "", in which she tackles the darker version of the fairytale princess.
